Dermatology Care for Skin of Color in Dallas

Darker skin has needs that not every dermatologist is trained to handle. Conditions can look different on brown and black skin, and some treatments carry a higher risk of scarring or pigment changes when they are done without the right experience. Dr. Rodgers trained in the Multicultural Skin of Color Clinic at Henry Ford Hospital, a program built to care for African-American, Asian, Latino, and Middle-Eastern patients. She brings that background to every visit as a black dermatologist in Dallas, and she takes time to explain what is happening with your skin and why.

Concerns she sees often in skin of color include:

  • Dark spots and uneven tone after acne or injury, known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • Melasma
  • Keloids and raised scars, which are more common in black skin
  • Razor bumps and ingrown hairs, or pseudofolliculitis barbae
  • Acne and acne scarring
  • Eczema, which can look different on darker skin

For skin of color, the treatment plan matters as much as the diagnosis. A peel or laser that suits fair skin can leave dark marks on brown skin if it is not chosen carefully. Dr. Rodgers builds each plan around your skin tone so the result improves your skin rather than trading one problem for another.

Dermatology Care for Skin of Color in Dallas

Skin cancer is a good example of why experience with darker skin counts. On black and brown skin it often shows up in places people do not think to check, such as the palms, the soles of the feet, under the nails, or inside the mouth. Because it is less expected, it can be found later, when it is harder to treat. Dr. Rodgers checks the areas that are easy to overlook and knows what early signs look like across different skin tones.

The same idea runs through the rest of her work. Whether it is acne, hair loss, eczema, or a cosmetic concern, the goal is care that fits the patient in front of her, not a one-size approach. That is what has made her a trusted black dermatologist in Dallas for patients of every background.
